Tap, tap, tap...impatiently tapping my foot here... ![]() They're still alive. I haven't killed them yet - now, will they bloom this year, I wonder? I've seen them listed as annuals and biennials, and I started these around the first of march... tap, tap.... Almost all of my other (early started) seedlings have bloomed already... even some fast-growing perennials. [I wouldn't be quite as impatient if I'd ever not killed my dianthus! ![]() |
mine rotted in the heavy rains ![]() |

Oh, no! ![]() That's what mine has always done, too. I guess maybe the awful drought here is keeping mine alive...so far. |
yeah I think 1/2 the pack yet |

That's good. ![]() |
chelle, are they budding yet? My current nemesis is begonias. Hopefully I will conquer them someday. In the past, it was platycodon. I WSowed it 4 or 5 years in a row with 0 germination. I finally bought a little plant, only to discover that I didn't like it that much ![]() Karen |

Nope. No buds, yet. This is from a few days ago. They look the same this morning. They're in with Wine Cups that have been blooming for quite some time already. Your begonias didn't bloom? Ha! Platycodon...never found one that liked me, either. ![]() Another that I can't seem to grow is Jacob's Ladder. ![]() |
they look happy Chelle.. hopefully soon |

While I was out there I weeded out all of those MGs...maybe that will help speed things along. ![]() |
Might er next year for the dianthus chelle. Begonias: I tried begonia dragon wing this year, 12 cells. 11 sprouted. All 11 did well until plant out- 10 of 11 died ![]() Karen |

Oh, gee! I hope not. They'll surely croak beforehand. ![]() Sorry to hear that about your begonias. ![]() |
always heartbreaking |
We had rain- it was in early May- and I think they rotted in my clay soil. But I have a long, strong history of killing begonias ![]() They looked like this in April ![]() ![]() Karen |
the big hanging basket of full grown begonias I bought.. withered away too.. and I usually have no problems .. I keep watering the container now to see if they come back.. but it doesn't look good |

I have sticky clay too; the only begonias that will live in the ground here are wax begonias. They're one of my *staple* plants that I grow every year...in blinding white. |
have to container them.. they like it moist |

Allison, are you referring to the dragon wing, or the wax? The wax I have now are doing pretty well considering we've had no rain, they're under a thick tree canopy, and they've only had two additional waterings since transplanting...it's one of the things I like most about them. I don't think mine are seed started however, maybe that makes a difference in vigor/ water needs? |
I like them all in containers.. with the coir.. keeps a nice even moisture level |

Ah! I see. I'm liking containers more and more each year, too. ![]() |
