Thanks for the tip! When I saw the photo I thought "OMG! it looks exactly like Sophy's Rose." I grew it in shade where it would bloom its head off. Its only flaw was that it was just a tad too upright for my tastes. And the fragrance wasn't quite so strong as other Austin roses. But still, it was way better than about 98% of the roses I've planted since. If this new rose captures Sophy's strengths and shores up its weaknesses, it will truly be something to save a space for in the garden. I'm up to the part where each new rose means removing an old one. I wonder what I'll remove next? Smokin Hot? MAAB? When you dance with nature, try not to step on her toes. |

What a gorgeous rose. What zone(s) and conditions are listed for it? Thanks for the beautiful pictures. Always seeking recommendations and advice. I welcome suggestions for heat loving roses with great scent, disease resistance, and long vase life. |

oakslesly said:What a gorgeous rose. What zone(s) and conditions are listed for it? Hi oakslesly I'm sorry but I don't understand "zone" maybe you're referring to a state of the USA ? ![]() if that's what you mean I cannot answer that because I don't live in USA I live in Wales. ![]() cheers Tafy |

Taft . In the US in order to know what plants will grow where we live the US is sectioned into zones.![]() The United Kingdom lies in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6 through 9 with some variations across regions and seasons. It enjoys a temperate maritime climate characterized by cool winters and warm summers. The rose chosen for your garden will grow well if the zone is matched with the climate appropriate for the rose. Ahh right....I see now Thanks bumplpea so these zones are probably referring to your positioning with the equator. oakslesly said:What zone(s) and conditions are listed for it? So I can confirm the area of Wales I'm living in is zone 8 and Gabriel appears very happy with his home. ![]() ![]() Conditions = Ideal for pots and containers, mixed border, windy or exposed, Full or partial sunlight Happy in All soil types, also North, East, South, West Facing. He doesn't really ask for any special treatment, I liquid feed him 40ml Miracle-Grow every 2-3 weeks. hope this helps you oakslesly ![]() cheers Tafy |

Just a note that zones refer to the average low temp. so is most useful for cold hardiness. Rain and Summer temps can vary wildly within them. However, all of my Austins thus far have little, if any, die-back in a zone6 and virtual zone5 sitings. I'm waiting for Gabe to be available..... what a beauty. Your pics have sold me, Tafy!!! |
