Daydreaming for next year, and I'd love to see some of the darkest iris - blue/black, purple/black, red/black, I don't care! I think I need to get a few to balance out all my light color iris. I do love the velvety ones, so if you want to please post away! Lovey dubby

These would be my favorite very dark nearly black irises.

I got Adriatic Noble as a door prize last year. It bloomed beautifully this spring, put out three big new fans, and one of the fans has just put out three little increases. It is a strong grower! It's not as dark as Black Lipstick, it's more a royal purple.

I also got Royalty Remembered as a door prize last year. It's a sibling of Adriatic Noble. It also bloomed beautifully and has put out three big fans. Theoretically it's a rebloomer, but it didn't rebloom for me. It bloomed early in the season, which is nice.

Another deep purple I got last year is Magnificent Masterpiece. I got it as a small rhizome, but it bloomed and has increased well, too, although it is not in as prime a location as the other two, which impressed me.

I don't have any black ones, but these 3 are the closest to it, especially Ozark Rebounder.

Such beauties! I bought Black Suited this fall and I hope it blooms next year - I can't wait to see it. But I put a few of these on the top of my want list, thank you for the great pics!

Black Lipstick looks like it has great branching too - something I look for. Well so far I've added Black Lipstick, Devil May Care, Hell's Fire, and Adriatic Noble to my wish list. I'd like to find a few more in the red-based black range. And from the database pics Devil May Care looks insanely velvety!

Black Lipstick wasn't on the 2018 TB symposium popularity poll at all in 2018. But I just got the results of the 2019 poll, and it has zoomed up from nowhere to number 50. Wow! I think that the last one that zoomed like that was Absolute Treasure. I bought it and it has turned out terrific.
