Welcome to The Porch Swing!

Everyone is welcome to join us on the Porch Swing a thread where we talk about cooking, books, pets, birthdays, TV, the area where we live, anything that isn't on topic for the regular daylily threads. The subject on the Porch Swingis always changing.

Don't worry about reading all of the thread, just jump right in. We're sure you'll enjoy visiting with us.

We have many threads covering a wide variety of information on the topic of Daylilies. The Daylily Forum has two threads for off topic discussion - Weather In Your Garden for weather related chat and The Porch Swing for all non-daylily messages and chat.

When a new Porch Swing thread is posted, the old Porch Swing threads will be left up for a few days, then periodically deleted, so be sure to copy any items out of the old thread that you want to keep when you see a new thread is up.

* All other off topic threads will be relocated to the appropriate Forum. If you inadvertently post an off topic thread to the forum, please let us know and we'll move it into its proper place, and if we see it before you do, we'll let you know by Tree-mail that we moved the thread.*

daylilydreams said:Haven't been on here much because my thumb is still hurting, the joint does not allow me to bend it easily and sticks in position if it does bend. My doctor has given me a referral to a orthopedic hand doctor will be seeing him in early October, she did have xrays done which appeared normal. She told me the orthopedic doctor will likely do a MRI, so I guess we will see what they determine is the problem.

I copied your post from last night to the new thread Betty.
Sorry you are still having trouble with your thumb. We don't realize how important thumbs are until they don't work like they're suppose to. I have thumb trouble as well due to nerve damage. Hope the docs can figure yours out and get you some help.

Group hug Betty,
Google "trigger finger". There may be info. under "trigger thumb", too, but all the trigger finger info. should be applicable. The joint getting stuck after you bend it is classic for that. The sooner it is treated after it starts getting stuck, the better.
I had it in my right 4th finger from overuse of my hand at a summer job in a seafood processing plant in Alaska. The diagnosis was made by a GP without an x-ray, much less an MRI. One injection in the swollen tendon sheath by a competent orthopedic doctor, and my hand is still fine 38 years later. The longer one waits, the more likely that surgery will be required by a hand specialist. However, usually the outcome is equally good.

Char,
Which hibiscus is that one? It is gorgeous!

Betty, I'm sorry your thumb is giving you trouble. I had the same problem, and, as Dr. D. said, a good orthopedic doc shouldn't require an MRI to diagnose the problem. Even my BAD orthopedic doc diagnosed me without an MRI. Think Medicaid, and my ONLY choice for an orthopedic doc was at a learning hospital. He was being overseen, but my experience was not a good one. I'll spare you the details, and I pray you get a GOOD doc who knows his stuff, for a much better outcome than mine. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Ginny, such lovely blooms to welcome you home! Hurray! Hurray!

Oh no Dana! Somebody has to be the Guinea pig - sorry it was you that time.
The GP diagnosed it correctly too, but he knew that injecting under a tendon sheath (NOT directly in the tendon) of a finger required a good orthopedic surgeon, and he told me where to go. Many orthopedic surgeons won't do the hand injections, and will delay further with another referral to an upper extremity (hand) specialist. If they won't do it, there is probably a good reason - take the referral and run.

I whole heartedly agree with Diana. Take the referral, Betty I tip my hat to you. Prayers for you, my friend. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Diana, until my surgery happened, I got an injection, in both thumbs bc the other was bothering me, as well. I had to drive home that day, with both thumbs in excruciating pain. Usually I can take pain pretty well, but that day, I cried all the way home. I don't know if he injected the wrong spot or what. Shrug! He only did surgery on my right thumb bc it was the one that was freezing in the bent position. Sad And don't get me started on surgery and what followed. Aweful experience with that doc. Grumbling

So, many of you know I've been painting some garden decorations, and I thought I'd post the finished products.

Wrought iron folding gazing globe stand. The finish was very chalky, and rusting in spots....

Diana, the hibiscus is Cranberry Crush. The image is from a few years ago...Fall caught me off guard yesterday and I rushed through image files to find images to use today. *Blush* CC is my favorite of the ones I grow. I also have Blue River II, Summer Storm and either Cherry Cheesecake or Tie Dye, one croaked. I need to check which one is still down in the garden.

I tip my hat to you. Will, most of the time the herding is pretty easy. It's only on a rare occasion when I need to get the whip out! Smiling
