Some time ago I mentioned that this year I wanted to try cutting up some clean old panty hose to use to protect the peaches on my container grown tree. Smiling I did just that and the peaches have had no bird damage ! Thumbs up So far I have picked 14 juicy delicious fruits. There are only a few more on the tree. The winter was pretty warm so the crop is less this year but such a treat compared to the store bought ones. The panty hose are a useful thing for a small tree in the yard . Hurray! Do it! Girl. You will win an acorn....Every acorn helps....
Peach Tomato Salsa
1/2 c. fresh tomatoes
1 cup peaches, chopped
1/2 onion, chopped
2 Tbsp. chopped fine cilantro ( I found out I don't care for this, next batch I used celery, chopped fine)
1 Tbsp. FRESH LIME JUICE (this is important)
1 tsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. olive oil
1 tsp. salt
Combine all ingredients and let SIT AT LEAST AN HOUR for flavors to blend.
Can be served with chips or as a side with chicken or grilled meats.
Adjust ingredients according to taste -more tomatoes, peaches etc. but be
SURE YOU USE LIME JUICE.
makes 2 servings.....

I tried to like it but Just can't. There are a couple of Peach places down here. We use one called Dickies in a tiny almost nothing town of Musella. They have peaches from may to second week in August...They have the Best Peach ice cream too. They make it out of the peach of the week. I love it.

Linda, do you have to do any other spraying or anything of your peaches? I've stopped buying them because they are apparently some of the worst fruit for needing a lot of chemicals to have them grow. If you can get away with it here, I just might consider a dwarf....

Sheryl I have never sprayed my peaches. Never noticed any bug on them, the birds are the only problem and the nylons stopped that and may have discouraged bugs as well.

Peaches do require a certain number of chilling hours to produce fruit so you need to pick a low chill variety and even then if we have a real warm winter you will have less fruit production. My best crop came a couple years ago when it dipped to 18 F. Destroyed most every thing else but the peaches loved it. Hurray! Last years warmer weather cut the number in half. Thumbs down

Picky little runts, aren't they? Actually, I'm more afraid of getting a bumper crop of any kind of fruit, self imposed dietary restrictions.

Usually, yes - but citrus is the main crop here, not easy to can or freeze.

And as much as I know it's good for me, I am loathe to regain the 45+ lbs I lost ... mostly by dialing back my sugar intake.
