Hmm!
Clematis comes under Ranunculaceae..surely there would be petals showing.

To me this looks like Asteraceae.
Reminds me of Ageratum sp.
One such as Ageratum conyzo.
But someone here should be able to id accurately.

Yes, you are right about clematis, but one of the native clematis that grows in my area has flowers very similar to the pic and it is blooming right now. I assumed it may be a native clematis based on the shape and position of the leaves on the vine. I am not aware of an aster that grows on a vine, but if there is one, I would be interested in it. Asters are good butterfly plants.

As an assumption Chromolaena odorata. It can grow like a vine. May have white flowers or flowers with a lilac shade.

I said Asteraceae ..it is a huge family and gave example .....One such as Ageratum conyzo...which does grow as a vine...bu that was a mere suggestion.

Chromolaena odorata......another Asteraceae.

Searched Clematis small white ..no joy.

I am familiar with a common kind of ageratum, this ageratum conyzo,do you know if it grows in the U. S. ? The flowers of this vine do look like our native ageratum. Key word here and previous post is NATIVE, not garden hybrid.

I think @GreenTara18 may be on to something, the leaves and blooms look a lot like those of Siam Weed (Chromolaena odorata)

It is a Texas native: https://www.wildflower.org/pla...

I'm old and my vision isn't all that great but to my eyes, the blooms don't in any way resemble Clematis (Clematis vitalba)

Yeah, Lyn, think you are right. The pic I saw of the clematis looked different from yours, and I know all about old eyes! I just had a niggling belief that it was a native plant. Right street, wrong house. Hurray! Hurray!

Andrew asked...

Re post above: Andrew did not say that it might be a native, IDID. If you had read all the posts you would have known that.

Sorry Gardenfish but I did read ALL the posts .
I am just confused as to why you introduced the term native plants when Andrews mystery plant could be from anywhere in the world.

With the emoji of a person shrugging their shoulders at the end of gardenfish's comment, I think clematis was just a suggestion ...

I make a lot of guesses when it comes to identifying flower photos, I should probably begin using that emoji. Smiling

Thank you, silver surfer, I just had a "feeling" about the vine, my mind went to native. I am sorry, I can't explain it any better than that. Blinking
