So, not until it rains. Try saucers full of beer.

Snails and slugs also can not crawl over copper stripping.
Surround your clematis.
The mucus of the critters has a chemical reaction with the copper.
Might also try diatomaceous earth, or crushed/ground eggshells instead of salt.
Good luck!

I live in Oregon. The banana slug is our state mascot. Smiling I stopped killing slugs when I was a little kid after our dad had us go out with flashlights and sprinkle salt on them in the night. You watch one slug melt before your eyes and you never want to watch another one died that way. I'm sure my yard has slugs, but I don't care. They help propagate ferns.

If you have possums or ducks, they will take care of the slugs/ snails. No poisons involved.

Rolling on the floor laughing I'm not a beer fan, so don't keep it in the house. When the beasties start liking scotch or wine I'm in trouble.

I agree Beer is pretty gross. But, slugs and snails obviously don't have my fine tastes (a glass of red wine anytime).

Fill a saucer (at least an inch deep) half full of beer and stick it under whatever bush has the most slug damage. Check it in the morning.

Really! Don't doubt me, just do it. Smiling

And apparently they pollinate wild ginger (asarum sp.) and other malacophilous plants...
And... The fireflies eat slugs...

If nothing else... You could always catch the slugs for the chickens... Don't have yard birds? Now you have another reason to get some!°

@DaisyI,
What does the beer do to the slugs? Kill them, or repel them?

The slugs are attracted to the beer, go over the side for a sip and fall in and drown but they die happy. Smiling

I use old tuna and cat food cans.
