I was given some chicks off of a hen & chicks plant.I was also given a few other succulents, which is a new experience for me.I am looking forward to learning to grow succulents and hoping i don't kill to many in the process.I hope i can avoid some mistake's with the help of the people on ATP.

My question is more of-was this the best thing to do kind of question?! I will post a picture to show you how i planted these 4 semps in a strawberry pot with some semps. Now that i've done it i wonder if i shouldn't have put the semp's in their own strawberry pot on top.Don't they turn into hens and have their own chicks.

Here's picture's of how i planted them, sorry if they are blurry!!!

Jelinda, looks like you have two different sedum in the top of the jar. Very nice.
There isn't much room in the side pockets for the semps to grow. I think I would give them their own containers so they have room to put all the chicks that will be coming. Thumbs up

Lynn,

I took the chicks out of the strawberry pot.I put them in another pot,my question is can i leave them in the same pot until they out grow the pot their in?Do they need to be grown in a pot of cactus, succulent soil or a soil that is as fast draining & quick drying as the premixed succulent soil.I buy MG cactus, succulent, citrus soil for my jades, holiday cactus etc.. Do i need to do they same for these?Thumb of 2012-08-06/jojoe/db6fa9
I know there are a LOT of succulent and i grow some other plants and i always try to find the botanical name i guess you would call them.Would you by any way know the latin name of this specific sempervivum? If not do you know of a web site or a way i could id these?

Thank you so much for your help.

The mix in the pot looks great, looks to be fast draining and won't compact. Semps are pretty forgiving of planting mix types as long as it drains quickly. Thumbs up
You can leave them in the pot until they fill it up and make a beautiful display pot for you. Hurray!
Can't wait to see that pot all full of lovely semps. Good job Jelinda.

Well i bought a mixed succulent pot yesterday that has been in the store for months.I hope I'm not in over my head!!! So expect to be hearing from me because i think "with as much as i've learned so far" that a lot of the plants are semp's and sedum's.I'm going to put some pictures on the succulent ID forum.Thumb of 2012-08-06/jojoe/71bd66

Jelinda, I don't see any hardy sempervivum or sedum in the pot. All of those look to be tender succulents, meaning they will not survive freezing temperatures. All should be easy to care for and bring indoors for winter. They love being outdoors for the summer season.
