Probably the weirdest seedling I've had, kept it just for that.

I see potential in this seedling. You have veined standards and striped falls. Thumbs up

Ev captured my favorites of the last group except for I absolutely adore the 1st one as well. When I enlarged, it was breathtaking, I love the beards on 16a. The 1st one she shows is one of the most exciting seedlings I have seen of late. The second one above is so unique and yes, beautiful.
I think the people who grow Irises are about as special as the flower itself!

Really love the color of this one. Agree with you on the hafts. Makes the pale blue pop. The form is wonderful.

Not the most attractive flower, but it is sort of a modern version of an old Sass iris called Desert Flower which I've always liked. Don't think I've seen another one.

Needs better form but the coloration is fantastic. Love the flush of lavender up the cream standards, and that the cream becomes more yellow in the falls.

Nice pink amoena. I'd love to cross it with Emblematic or Magic Mirror if I could get either of them to bloom.

Lovely as is, even if you don't cross it with others.

The Sass family introduced a bunch of innovative irises in the years just before and after World War II, some of the first luminatas and glaciatas for example. There are modern equivalents of most of those plants, but not all. Desert Flower, Jungle Shadows, and Doxa still stand apart as unique. Pretty amazing, after all of that time.

I didn't get much bloom on the 2017 crop of seedlings last spring and wasn't very impressed with most of what did bloom. There were a few potentially nice ones, though.

This was from Pretty as a Picture X Cross My Heart. I was so excited about using this seedling in hybridizing that I tore the first flower all apart THEN thought about taking a picture of it. Tried to put it back together after making the cross, but obviously didn't succeed. We had a run of bad weather over the next several days so was never able to take another picture of it. That's a long way of saying that it may look like it has open standards, but it doesn't. The beards and the veins on the falls are about the closest thing to red I've seen on a bearded iris.

The next three seedlings were from Espionage X Girl Crush. All of them, to varying degrees, exhibit what Keith Keppel calls the waterfall pattern on the falls. They obviously get that from Espionage which got it from Silk Road.

Another one that I didn't get a decent picture of, but might be a pretty good iris. This seedling was from Magical X Call Me Maybe. I like Call Me Maybe a lot, but it performs somewhat poorly here. I'm hopeful this somewhat pinker version of it will do better.

Another Espionage seedling, Espionage X Catwalk this time, showing the waterfall markings on the falls.

This seedling was from Note to God X Haunted Heart. It's not original by any means, but it is very pretty.

That really is a red beard on the first one, and the lines on falls as well. Very interesting!

Would be nice to know what the RHS color code is for the red beard and the lines on the falls.

color codes are always 'near' this or that. never come out to the exact color.

I would still like to know how "near" they are to 43A. Just curious. This color is very rarely found in irises.

There's a reason why only a small minority of irises registered in any given year include RHS codes in the color descriptions. The value is debatable.
