Happy Thanksgiving!! Had my younger brother and his family over and my favorite cousin surprised me yesterday by calling and saying he was coming to town and could probably come over so he did that today. Luckily we always cook too much food so was all good. ![]() Love all the dog pictures!! I'm a sucker for them. ![]() |
Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone. I'm sure you feel the need to relax for a while, so this might be the ideal time to choose your favorites in the photo contest. The judging phase has begun. It doesn't last long (just until Monday), so don't put it off. https://garden.org/apps/photoc... |

Wow, such beautiful pics! Hard to choose and narrow down to just three favorites per category! I'm just curious. Were any of these pics taken with a phone camera? |

It's the tail end of the Turkey sandwiches, another hard year for us without our dog. He loved to lay under the table and watch the Turkey in the oven. I wanted to get one more look at the sweet Dalmation card before saying goodbye to Thanksgiving- LOW AND BEHOLD , I found an answer ! In the book " Pitbull Flower Power " all the shelter dogs are wearing flower crowns. I promised the local rescue I would make some tiaras for their dogs, but the book's crowns are so elaborate I need an easier project. Jeri, your Dalmation's neck bandanas with a flower clasped at the knot, and flower head dress with ribbon tie under the chin are perfect. Thank you for the meaningful photo. Big Red has been in Spokane SCRAPS shelter a long time. Someone placed flowers on his Gargoyle head and posted on Facebook. He may not be real fond of the idea, I hope it helps get him adopted. What a transformation, it reminds me of Little Red Ridinghood; Grandma what big eyes you have ! ![]() ![]() |

Fisherwoman -- I saw that shelter photo with the flowers myself, and I do hope it gets him a home. I read, recently, that some shelters have begun experimenting with something you might call "rent-a-dog" (or -cat) and I must say, it sounds like a wonderful idea. People can take a shelter pet home with them for a few days, or a week, giving the pet a break from shelter life, and the person a dog to hold for a time. Perhaps that will help some of them socialize. Perhaps it will help some folks in a tough time. Some might think it's silly the way our three are "dressed up" -- but when I see the smile it brings to the face of a teenaged girl in an Emergency room, or an older gentleman in assisted living, I feel it well worth the effort ... and our three, typical Dalmatians, are just thrilled to be out, going and doing. I hope all here had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Beside my thanks for everything else, I am thankful that it's still raining out. |

Your reply brought tears to my eyes Jeri. I'll have to check into that rental idea. |

Our local animal control shelter has a foster program similar to the rent-a-dog idea. People can foster a dog or cat for a weekend or longer just to give them an outing, or they can "foster to adopt" which provides a sort of trial period before they have to make a decision, or as I have done, foster a dog or two to help work through some behavior issue that makes them less adoptable. All great ideas! Porkpal |
