Hi I've had this Hoya for about two weeks maybe, I watered 4 or 5 days ago, the soil is now almost completely dry. The leaves are very firm, no give whatsoever. This is the problem, I've had 3 leaves turn yellow and drop off and the end of my stem dried up and snapped offWhat am I doing wrong?

Nothing yet. The plant is trying to adjust to a new environment. You have to give it some time - plants don't think very fast. Don't be tempted to water until the leaves tell you to.

I got a new Hoya a few days ago. All the tender little shoots have died back but I am confident the plant will like its new surroundings and start growing again. But maybe not today. Smiling

PS: Losing old leaves doesn't count. If you start losing new leaves, you have a problem.

Hint: Because of the tightly wrapped leaves, this Hoya is particularly prone to mildew (poor air circulation) and bugs (tight spots). Keep an eye on it.

Your Hindu Rope Hoya (Hoya carnosa 'Compacta') is likely adjusting to the repotting and also it's new environment. I haven't grown the Hindu Rope in a long while, my photos below are from 2009/2010 but my plant used to get the occasional yellow leaves. It was also a mealybug magnet and with all the nooks and crannies, it was impossible for me to keep up with those little pests. It's a neat plant with it's twisty, tightly compact leaves and pretty flowers but too much work for me, especially as more and more, my patience wanes with age. Smiling

From the photo showing a terra cotta pot, I assumed it had been repotted from it's plastic nursery pot.

Thumbs up That would be a good assumption.
