These plants appear to be a type of ground cover and reseed themselves. Any idea what they are?

Yes, Viola. I think odorata. When I lived in the San Joaquin, my father in law gave me a potted plant with a couple of those violets in it. Within 5 years, they covered my entire front yard. They are pretty but will crowd out everything else, so no weeds. Smiling

I agree, Viola, they are blooming this time of year here in Florida too.

Sweet Violet (Viola odorata)
Common Blue Violet (Viola sororia)
