|Last evening I had the most amazing deer encounter, finished the dinner cleanup, decided to go turn the water on the raspberries, open the gate to the terraced area and there was a deer with her head down munching grass on the level just below the raspberries, so close, like 5 feet, finally she looks up, I tell her it's ok, I expected her to turn and run, instead, much to my surprise she lays down in the cool grass in the shade of the rocks right in front of me.. I quietly close the gate and leave. So I tell DH, and before I know it he is stomping across the deck to try and see her, then he tells me it is a buck, I say no it isn't, he says it has horns, I say no it doesn't, I know horns when I see them. He points to the buck, sure enough it has horns, there are 2 of them, I show him where she is, I had not seen the buck. Isn't that just too cool!!!! DH stood on a chair and got a couple of photos. The deer were more important than the raspberries, but they did get water later after the deer left.|
If you look carefully you will see the doe's ear on the right hand side of the second photo.

|Aw! I miss the deer! There hasn't been many since the drought just about starved them out!|
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White
