Hibiscus forum: Leaves turning yellow and falling off

Hi there,

I have a beautiful indoor hibiscus that I started from a cutting in 2011. It blooms very infrequently, probably due to the fact that I live at approx 8,000 ft elevation. However, it grew about four buds last month, one of which flowered into a beautiful bloom. Since then, a lot of the leaves have been turning yellow and falling off. I've tried feeding with fertilizer, watering more, watering less, and nothing seems to be working. I'm worried that all of the leaves will drop, essentially killing the plant. It does appear to have new growth at the end of the branches but I haven't been monitoring closely enough to tell how fast new leaves are developing. I do know that they aren't developing nearly as fast as the leaves that are dying. Any help would be much appreciated. (I included a picture of the bloom in case that helps to identify the type of hibiscus).

Have you been doing anything differently since it has been fine for so long?

I have not. The only thing that I can think of that may have triggered it was that I tied some of the branches to the dowels in have in the pot for support and to keep the growing up and not all crowding the tiny window this plant is next to.

The leaves have stopped dying so fast and new growth appears to be stunted. The new leaves aren't getting big. I do continue to lose about leaves. Maybe I need to repot? Or prune?
