I figure a lot of people are dealing with strange out of the ordinary circumstances, and while there has been space on other threads to discuss what has been going on, I figure it might be fun to have a thread where we post pictures of plants, pets, or anything else that catches our fancy and may provide some diversion of some of the stuff that is going on all around us. For me it was the first day where we have been told to work from home and self-isolate as much as possible, and while I got some work done, I also spent a lot of time talking to co-workers and students and post-docs in my research group about the situation and what is going on. So some non-work, non-COVID related stuff is certainly welcome. So to start here a couple of pictures: Since I am starting this in the Cactus and Succulents forum, I will start with a cactus. This is Echinocactus platyacanthus showing full on winter stress colors and some nice patterning around the top where ribs are splitting to form more ribs: This is our dog Blink (a white german shepherd - lab mix) who only has one trick when there is food in the kitchen: sit pretty, but he does that very well: ![]() I will try and add a few photos to this thread every day for the foreseeable future, please add whatever you can/want! Stay healthy and safe! It is what it is! |

You should add that to the DB mcvansoest... I like the plant in general, but i absolutely love the ones in with the red patterns on them..(something my former plant will never be able to do)... |

My big diversion and excitement at the moment is my little black Lobivia arachnacantha. It has just started to develop a bud, which will be the very first flower I've gotten from any of my desert cacti! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My tiny Gymnocalycium has a bud in progress too. I don't really count that as 'mine' (as in, I grew it) because it had already started it when I got it a few months ago, but I'm happy nonetheless! It halted development after being put in my cold windowsill, but started actively growing again about a week ago. ![]() |

My arachnacantha bloomed last summer My gymnocalycium was making buds when i bought it in september..., but they were likely forced and out of season... |

Many years ago (before we got the dogs) i spent about 10 years keeping various tropical fish from loaches to rainbow fish. Ended up with a 80 gallon tank with 15 discus and about 5 other fish tanks all over the house. Amazing hobby really rewarding Steve |

They tend to grow out of it. Here is one of my Euphorbias that has really been liking the move to the new house: ![]() Steve as said any pictures you care to share!
