I got a Hoya carnosa in November and it hasn't grown any new leaves or grown bigger ones. Is it even possible it'll grow due to the way it's been cut? I don't see any nodes or anyway for it grow new leaves based on that. All answers welcome.
Background: gets bright indirect sunlight, about 2 feet away from a south facing window, rarely water it because it never does anything, there is new root growth which looks healthy

Your Wax Plant (Hoya carnosa) plant looks good, a bit dusty but that can be remedied by wiping the leaves with a wet paper towel, or giving it a gentle shower. Dust buildup on the leaves deters light penetration and the plant's ability to photosynthesize.

You can expect active new growth to begin with warmer weather in the summer months. My Hoyas have just recently begin to take off because here in Florida, we've been spring temperatures ranging in the mid and upper 80's! Plants (even indoor plants) usually rest during autumn and winter and growth slows down until warmer temperatures return.

I can't see the soil in your photos but regarding your comments "I rarely water it because it isn't doing anything. Indoor plants require less water in the winter months when they aren't actively growing but the soil should never be allowed to totally dry out.

It sounds like you have a handle on your Hoya plant and I hope you will share more photos in the coming months!

Thank you, the soil is a cactus/citrus blend that most of my plants seem to like. Hopefully my Hoya will take off Smiling

Hoyas go dormant in winter and are often slow growing even when they are awake. Mine is just starting to wake up as well. Also, don't be surprised when the new growth is just a long bare stem. You'll see pairs of nubs along it, that's where leaves will grow in eventually, but it'll probably be bare for quite a while. Totally normal, that's just what they do!

Hello piegirl25, we have varying growing environments. Over here, I still water my indoor Hoyas, but I do observe watering intervals. I even have an Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen' cutting that is happily growing in just water gel beads. Mother plant stays outdoors since my area is mild winter area, and it gets rained on intermittently. I let it get that, soon we will be in super hot and dry weather. This would be the only time it will get natural juice.

But it will always get lots of airflow around to help in dry out time. When you say 'rarely water' that sounds rather vague to me...and you might be treating it too much like a desert succulent, when it is a tropical succulent, so it will like to get watered a bit more often. I just water directly the root zone, no misting of the leaves if grown indoors, and let excess water drain out.

Since it is now Spring, time to adjust your watering, try to water just a bit more, but not making it way too soggy since you have it indoors. Still allow watering intervals.

@piegirl25, Can you upload a photo taken from a little farther away? Hopefully someone will be able to tell what that growth might be but my old eyes can't even see "Hoya" in that close up photo. Smiling

Great photos! That growth appears to be possibly adventitious roots or a new stem ... time will tell!

Another couple of weeks of growth should tell whether it's a new stem or adventitious/aerial roots looking to climb.

It looks like a new shoot to me. Yay!

I have one I got as a 'freeby' (it was either pay postage or add another plant. Smiling ). It has been sitting since January with no discernible growth. Your plant gives me hope. Crossing Fingers!

@Daisyl it's taken at least 6 months for this to put out a new shoot. I never thought it was going to grow but I guess miracles do happen. Good luck with your Hoya!

I've got a couple pretending to be plastic plants. Hoping summer wakes them up.

Yeah, but you shouldn't water the plastic ones. Smiling Mine still uses water - what seems like a lot of water (I feel leaves to determine when to water).

I have a David Cumingii, Sunrise, and a big Mac that have been fooling me for months now. Sighing!
