Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Intelligent Design')

I planted this one a couple years ago in my Prayer Garden. Another gorgeous Karol Emmerich intro and does quite well in my northern garden. Love it.

It's a nice flower, but the plant has never been an exuberant grower, and certainly hasn't been three feet tall. Usually not early midseason here. Probably needs a better spot in the garden.

Intelligent Design has been happily growing in a 10" pot with saucer for three years. It is a vigorous grower that has gone from two fans to five+1/2 in that time. It acts more like a Dormant here, and has beautiful foliage. Flower size is accurate as an average with first flowers closer to 7". My only problem with it is the scape does not get even close to the length that it is registered at: more like 28" rather than the 36" registration. It is a bit reluctant to make pods, but pollen works fine. I cross it onto cv.'s that have scape length. It is a keeper until a flower comes along just like it on a reliably longer scape.

I've only had mine one bloom season. I don't have a big daylily collection, but this is my favorite in my collection. It hasn't increased yet. Nothing much else has either. I have rocks and clay or rocks and sand. I didn't bother to measure the scapes, but nothing gets as tall as its potential here. I tossed some composted chicken manure around them all a couple of weeks ago - their first feeding ever. It's sink or swim in my garden, and daylilies are swimmers here.

We have Intelligent Design and just love it. It was one of the first ones i ever recieved. We have it in 3 different places. Simple flower and have alot of compliments on it. Opens well and holds color well. Never have crossed it so cant say anything about pollen or pods. I have never measured scapes but things are shorter here usually.

I'm not quite sure any of these pictures accurately capture its vividness. It really stands out in my daylily garden. It was one of my first daylilies and is still one of my favorites!
