Hello! I'm growing some Tennis Ball Lettuce indoors and I noticed a cluster of what looks like small flower buds in the middle of it. Is this a sign that my lettuce is about to bolt?

I've attached a picture of my Tennis Ball Lettuce for reference. Thanks!

And on a related note: if it is starting to bolt, how much of the leaves can I harvest without slowing down the bolting process? I would like to try collecting seeds from it, but I also enjoy my lettuce :D

Yes, it does. Taste the lettuce as it may be bitter and inedible.

Thank you! The lettuce isn't bitter, but it looks very different compared to the picture here. It's a darker green and the leaves are more spread out.

You will want to let the plant live long enough for the seed to fully mature. So don't cut too much. Judgement call Shrug!
Plant it and they will come.

So... after trying to figure out why the flowers were dying off, I did more research and realized that I somehow mixed up the Tennis Ball Lettuce I had started with my Hedou Tiny Bok Choy.

Oops. That explains why they don't look like dandelions.

Ha Smiling now you know what flowers of all cabbage family things look like. Crucifers, from Latin 'cross,' four petals.
Plant it and they will come.
