Johannian said: Yes, they're certainly beauties, Besty; especially when they bloom by the hundreds, decorating a big field with purple and orange.

Kristi, any chance your "twister flower" could be Spring Ladies' Tresses (Spiranthes vernalis) ?

Thank you, Johannian. I do believe you are correct on the exact ID.

How interesting to also see that it is categorized in the orchid family. That is the second wild orchid that has been ID'd on my place. How cool is that!?! Hurray! Hurray!

In a reference book "Wild Flowers of the Big Thicket" it is noted as one of the more common species of orchid. Also noted as fragrant. I need to remember to smell the next one I see. Thanks to @Wildflowers and Johannian!

so excited to see theses monarch larva munching on the milkweed I had transplanted from the side of a highway into my backyard garden last year, anxiously waiting for the butterflies

Neat! We have some natively-growing milkweed here. The bugs are usually all over them.

Yeah, that's what I was told, but they're really easy to pluck. So wherever I don't want them, I just pluck 'em.

They are pretty. Smiling Like a wild morning glory. I like seeing them growing in the wild. But, we have plenty of room to let the wildflowers grow wild here. I sure hope it stays that way.

It has been so dry here that even the invasive honeysuckle is shriveling, and some of the usual wildflowers along the roads and in our pastures are dwarfed, but Mexican petunias are still blooming generously.

Lovely! I haven't seen any ironweed this year... yet. It is hot and dry.

It did seem early to me. I recall it being the heat of August and September. Maybe the heat/drought is why it is in bloom early. The blooms did not seem as full this summer either but still a welcome sight.
