Hi! My name is Laura and we live in zone 5. We would like to plant something for privacy between us and our neighbor's house! Our houses are about 60-70 yards apart, so there's plenty of room for something to grow. I've included a picture of this side of our yard; the blue line is the edge of our property. The red trailer is our neighbors. Our area has a lot of deer, birds, and blustery winds. Our yard is very wet and there is a septic tank or some sort of pipes underground on that side of our house. I should add that since our house is not very close to the neighbors, we are looking for more of a visual block than actual privacy. Our neighbors aren't in our business; rather, its a trailer with a lot of toys, chairs, and a burn pile in their yard. We'd like some visual simplicity and beauty when we look at that side of property. I don't know anything about plants, but I know a maple tree won't give us the privacy we need! We live in the country and a neatly trimmed hedge doesn't seem to fit with our setting. What would you recommend? Thank you! ![]() |

Red twig dogwoods- Red Twig Dogwood (Cornus sericea) Arrowwood Viburnums- Arrowwood Viburnum (Viburnum dentatum) Blackhaw Viburnums- Blackhaw Viburnum (Viburnum prunifolium) Serviceberry- Serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) Summersweet- Sweet Pepperbush (Clethra alnifolia) Ninebark. Ninebarks (Physocarpus) Those are all some good choices. There are more options also but this is a start. |
