I took these photos yesterday of a Chrysler Imperial, just as the sunrise struck the morning dew. |
Stunning Mike, especially when you enlarge them to see the details! My gardening Blog! Handmade quilts, face masks, new & vintage fabrics in my Etsy store. Summer Song Cottage Instagram Sewing posts |
Amazingly ornate! And those two perfect circles poised at the top of the bud in the second photo, like a pair of eyes, are beyond stunning! |

Thanks! I wish you could have seen them in person. From a certain angle they almost looked like they were candied with sugar. |

Very pretty but reminds me of things to come. Thanks Mike! ![]() |

I enjoyed those too, Mike. It looks like your roses are putting out new growth. Are you doing anything special to protect them from frost? When you dance with nature, try not to step on her toes. |
Now that some of our star photographers are watching this thread, I'll hijack it for a minute, Mike, to remind all of you that Sue and I are looking forward with delight to the photos you'll be contributing to the database when the winter doldrums hit. Come on, Vicky, Steve, and Mike. If you have roses for which there are no entries, send me the names in a c-mail and I'll create the entries and send you links to them. |

Nice segue. If I post pretty photos, am I allowed to say "but when I grew this rose in NJ it dissolved like so much cotton candy in the first rainstorm ... or might as well have when blackspot hit in June?" Perhaps I can just have a big old rubber stamp made that says this for all the roses I lost! Oh, never mind, I know the shortcuts for cut-and-paste. When you dance with nature, try not to step on her toes. |

No doldrums yet. I spent the whole weekend staining a new shed in the cold temps. I'm exhausted. Just can't do that kind of stuff anymore. I need some undocumented workers. I'm going to go have a Margarita now. |
Not only allowed, Steve, but encouraged to say things like that. In fact, comments like that one would be highly valuable and highly appreciated even on the pages for roses for which you don't have photos. |

Steve - That sort of info would be invaluable for beginners like to know what kinda to expect when we experiment with a new rose. That's why I always post whether or not a rose I plant survives my winters or not. Either "Survived Zone 5 winter Colorado" or "Did NOT survive Zone 5 winter, Colorado". HMF is too generic for my tastes when it comes to what survives or not.. probably because not too many of us cold zone people are silly enough to try to grow roses, believing that only warmer climes can do it. Roses are one of my passions! Just opened, my Etsy shop (to fund my rose hobby)! http://www.etsy.com/shop/Tweet... |

It certainly needs to be done. I'll see what I can do. When you dance with nature, try not to step on her toes. |
Yes, Toni has been scrupulous about adding information. The more we have, the more useful this database will be. So, even if you don't have photos of various roses, please report your experience with them. Hardiness info is particularly valuable. |

Steve, My roses continue to put out new growth until the first frost, which we did not get until last night, when the temps dropped down into the mid 20's. I still have a few roses blooming, and had one or two bloom as late as Thanksgiving during a particularly mild autumn a few years back. |

Zuzu, thanks for the nudge. I'll check the database against my collection of rose photos. |
Great, Mike. I'm looking forward to it. Vicky contributed some gorgeous photos today. |

Will try to to do more, a couple at I times as I'm able. |

Mike - wow, must be nice! All my new growth has been decimated by the 2 hard frosts we had this past week.. Oranges n Lemons had shot up an extra 2 feet, then the canes are a nasty purplish-black now. Everyone's still holding onto their leaves.. it's usually not until February that I actually lose all the leaves with the unprotected areas of the canes. In my mini bed, I'm leaving the mums there for extra protection on the tiny new minis I put in this year.. it's kinda like seeing a chihuahua peeking from between a great dane's legs with the mums & some of my minis. ![]() Roses are one of my passions! Ouch! That's too bad, Toni. Or should I say Brrr! I'm fortunate that I still have the following roses in a modest stage of bloom - at least for a few more days. America Berries 'n' Cream Blaze of Glory Bouquet Parfait Buff Beauty Cabana Carefree Celebration Cherry Parfait Chi Ching Chrysler Imperial Cinco de Mayo Circus Flower Circus Pom Pom Day Breaker Electric Blanket Fragrant Cloud French Lace Gemini Golden Unicorn Glowing Peace Hi Neighbor Iceberg Mardis Gras Midas Touch Mother of Pearl Mr. Lincoln Our Lady of Guadalupe Outta the Blue Pat Austin Queen Elizabeth Rainbow's End Reba McEntire Red Queen Red Ribbons Ruffled Cloud Scentimental Singin' in the Rain Titanic Traviotta Some only had one or two blooms left on them this morning, but it was enough for me to gather up one last big bouquet for the season this afternoon. (Fortunately I telecommute from home two days per week, so I can still get out in the garden while there's some daylight left.) The bushes with the most blooms on them were Cherry Parfait, Chrysler Imperial, Mardis Gras, Ruffled Cloud, and Our Lady of Guadalupe. There are still unopened buds on a number of roses, so if we get a few warm days without it dipping into freezing temps during the night, I might get a few more blooms to open yet. |
