Just gets too hot? We are still very cool for end of May, but many years we will get a blast of heat that zaps spring flowers.

That happened with my peonies last year. They are in bud now, but it is supposed to get hot by the weekend. Maybe that will happen with the irises, too! It's been raining quite a bit as well. Shrug!

This year has been utterly weird for irises. I still have a bearded iris blooming and it the first of June. I do not remember ever having bearded irises in bloom past May 15th or so. I took this picture today: one bearded iris blooming with Shasta daisies, Asclepias tuberosa, and day lilies. A strange looking combination. And yes... that bed needs work. Last year, I partially dug it up in order to have room for new irises that were planted in haste. Now I need to reset the bed so that it is balanced and pleasing to the eye.
