This past winter I purchased several daylilies off the LA from several sellers including one seller in New York state...

I had received all of my orders from every LA seller except the seller in New York state, so I contacted him earlier this month and was told shipment would be made in a couple weeks...that it was still too cold to dig them.

Well, today I messaged him again and asked when I could expect my order. Reply I received was that....

"....Plants are ready, but waiting to get over the virus before I can ship... I have had the symptoms for 6 days, talked to my doctor, but never tested. Hopefully the symptoms will stay mild and then go away.... "

Am I wrong to NOT want to receive this order knowing that the seller has been sick with the virus....?

I am 73 yrs and don't want a shipment of daylilies to make me sick.... Sighing!

I asked seller to cancel order and make refund....

Everyone has their own comfort level but from my reading I believe the risk of getting COVID-19 from a package sent from someone who is infected would be extremely low. Keep in mind that the package would take at least a couple of days to reach you in which case any virus that was part of the packaging would no longer be alive or viable.

Seller has promptly made the refund.....

The nice thing is that they notified the purchasers!
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

I was going to sell some of my daylilies this year to make room for some purchases. As soon as it became clear NYC was going to get hit hard I figured this was not the year. Not only did I suspect people would be a bit unsure but I didn't want to have to go out to the post office to mail packages. Maybe next year. Sighing!

Are you afraid of the packaging or the daylilies themselves? I've always dipped my new daylilies in a lite 5-10% bleach solution before planting them. That may kill any virus residue left on the plant by the handler..............Maryl

I sold a lot of daylilies for shipment this spring, before I got them all shipped this thing exploded so I made the decision to stop shipping until things get better. I am 77 and the post office is a mad house so I sent the remaining buyers this notice only one canceled their order.

Due to the Coronavirus restrictions and the concern for everyone's health we have made the decision to stop shipping until the end of May 2020, or until things get better. Hopefully you will understand we are all in this together and have to do what's best for everyone. We will contact you as soon as we can resume shipping to confirm a ship date. Fred and Kathleen. (spunky1)

I also stopped selling when I stopped shipping.

Wise decision, Fred. The post office is probably one of the worst places to be during this pandemic.

I am still digging and shipping but from the house. Trying the Click and Ship and my maillady picks them up. What a strange time. I am ordering my boxes online too.
Bee Kind, make the world a better place.
