Hi everyone,

I just bought a baby blue spruce from a local nursery. It seems to be healthy, although I don't know much about this tree. The leader curves slightly to one side and is bare for the most part. Is this normal? The tree is about 4 feet tall. I've attached photos.

Usually, that brown growth tip would be covered in needles. Scratch the bark to see if the tissue under the skin is green. If it is green, all is good. If its hard or doesn't scratch, the tip is dead and that's a problem.

Thanks, Daisy. It's hard, but I scratched it and it is green underneath. See photo
