Seems to me that we should have a cannabis forum. It's now legal in many states to grow it.

I can only imagine the topics:

How high did you get in your garden today?

Does this look like cannabis to you? Or, is it weed?

What is the best strain for relaxation? Sleepy time? Garden time?

What's the best spacing for getting spaced out? How far out can you go?

Is there a climbing cannabis? How high does it go?

:)

Great topic. Voted to legalize when in Colorado, hated paying taxes for law enforcement and prisons related to it not being legal. In 80s, relatives offered me to join them, had only 2 puffs and did inhale (smoked cigarettes then), told them "I'm going back to the Scotch".
For over 8 yrs, worked for DoD-Inspector General in the 90s before retiring, a position subject to random drug testing. Six months after joining, was in a class and had to give a 2 minute impromptu speech in front of the class. Over half the students were Defense Criminal Investigation Agents who chose to speak on child molesters, criminals, and guns. My speach was on the benefits of leagalizing marijuana, ended with giving cops more time for meaningful work. For the remainder of my time at an office with 10-14 other auditors, I was "randomly" selected 5 or 6 times for an annual drug test

I think this would be better suited on the site talk forum (maybe?), just so folks who have recommendations for the site can see it. I do think someone brought this up before, but I don't recall the consensus of the higher ups.

Never smoked it as a kid. Couldn't legally smoke.eat it or even use the butters due to drug testing at work. Now that I am retired, I am up for some adventure! No, not legal here. Whistling

Garden.org Admin

The annual National Gardening Survey for the past 2 years has shown a huge increase in the number of people who would grow cannabis if it was legal to do so. Half of those reported to have never engaged in gardening before. Cannabis cultivation will be a "gateway" to bring new gardeners into the fold.

I'm not opposed to a forum about it, but I don't want a forum talking about getting high. That's not what this site is about. Growing plants is what we're about here.

Legal here in Illinois (recreational and medical) but without a medical card it's illegal to grow. Go figure.

Well we DEFINITELY can't grow it in Texas! The fine for cultivating is larger than using.

I'm a convicted felon for supplying a group of medical professionals with marijuana to treat MS patients. My life was ruined but I know I was doing the right thing. It's powerful medicine that we can't (currently) synthesize. Legally it's potential cant even be explored. It's a shame. Smh.
I don't grow. It's just to risky. If the cops don't get you the criminals will.

Overall I agree with Frank's bringing up the topic. However, I do not think the medical affects of marijuana should be on this site, as Dave posted. This brings up a question, does this site have a charter, by-laws, mission statement, or something that discusses what the site is about and what is proper? If it does, where is it posted? If it does not, should there be one? Does the site operate by whim, or the seat of its pants?
Answers to these questions would be nice, but are not required--in over 1 yr, this is the most devided question I have seen. In my opinion, this topic is one the NATION is currently devided on. I could easily see, and agree with, "site powers" prohibiting a "Cannabis Forum", but it would be nice if they explain why they prohibited one or allowed one.

Great! Voted to legalized when UK. Hurray! I have found CBD oil for myself and it is very good for anxiety, I can say that it is a very good solution that really helps with any illness. But, you need to know that there are different types of it, before you buy, you need to find out exactly what you need. I was looking for organic and pure oil, and now I am satisfied. Overall, CBD oil is also a positive treatment for anxiety disorders. I had an anxiety condition for a very long time, and for some reason I was afraid to go to a psychologist, it helped me a lot, and I had no side effects. I can't understand why they can't legalize it... Also, it is good for pets, i gave it to my cat after her surgery, best CBD oil for cats is a nice cure.

I agree with dave, for sure. I don't believe NGA was created for discussing drugs and whatnot.

Yet we do discuss other herbs, including their culinary and medicinal properties. I don't see a difference. That said I would simply encourage a thread in the herb forum rather than a forum specific to one herb.

I think herbs and getting high are different.

I should have made it more clear, but what I mean/meant is "drugs that aren't necessary for health". Weed/pot, whatever you want to call it, is solely for people's pleasure. It is not a necessity in life.

On the other hand, herbs are not just for medicinal purposes (which I know you didn't just state medicinal, you stated that it is used for food), but used for culinary/food purposes, as you said, which is a necessity in life.

Now, we may go to the extent of "spices on your food isn't a necessity in life", but I think that at that point whoever says it is going to extremes.

Spices on foods is definitely more necessary then not being sober-minded and lost in useless drugs.

P.S. I agree! There should should just be a thread instead of a whole forum specifically for cannabis, which is an herb.

Here in Canada it is legal. we can legally grow 3 plants per person per household.

one of the most exciting aspects of legalising it was that now it can be fully studied. Many renowned scientists have moved here just for that purpose.

id love to see a forum dedicated to growing it, it's uses, and benefits (i've been using cbd oil for months for chronic pain)

that being said, this is a National gardening site and some folks could get...erm...perturbed? especially since it isn't a country wide thing yet down there.

There are many plants with psychotropic properties, not just cannabis. There are also many uses for cannabis, from topical use to pain management to recreational use. I am comfortable with any conversations regarding plant care and uses, no matter what the plant is. As with any thread, the choice to read or follow it or not is up to each person. I see this as a non issue.

I am siding with Deb. I think that it would be better to start a thread, rather than an entire forum for marijuana/cannabis.
