Greetings!

I just discovered you all yesterday (the result of a personal plant crisis) and am already in love with the website!

Two people in the forum responded to my inquiry and provided me with SCADS of information, every bit of which I found to be tremendously helpful!

This brings me to my first inquiry. Is there a way for me to respond to each of these people individually, and within the forum thread, or is sending tree mail the only way to reach them? I provided each a thumb's up and gave each some well-deserved acorns, but I'd really love to be able to thank them individually and address their advice within the thread.

Second query: I've read gobs of pages along the lines of how to use the site, but thus far, I've been unable to find reference to the gray rectangles at the bottom of posts. I can't identify what the icon even is, much less know how to use it.

If you'd not mind advising me on these matters - at your convenience, of course - I'd sure be grateful!

My thanks,
Michelle K. Staley

Hi ChelleKristine, Welcome!

#1 Yes, just type the @ sign and the persons username and type your message to them. The system will notify them that they have been mentioned in the post. Don't leave a space between the @ and the name; type it like this: @ChelleKristine, @plantladylin, etc.

#2, the little gray box to the right of the acorn photo and to the left of the word Quote is where you bookmark pages that you might like to go back and read later.

And since I tagged my own username, I got the following system message:
You were mentioned in a post!
plantladylin just tagged your name in the thread "Two quick queries from newbie" located in the Site Talk forum. This post is a reply to the thread as post #2232311.

@ChelleKristine,
This is how you can respond to individuals. By using the @ symbol and their user name.
The gray icon is a favorites icon. Click on it when you want to save a response, then you can look in your profile under saved pages and add a notation so you know why you saved it. They are kept in alphabetical order so give some thought when making you notes.
Edited to add:
Sorry cross posted.
But I can also add a welcome I forgot in the first post.
