I am offering for sale some seedlings of Anthurium spectabile. This is a very rare anthurium. It was in tissue culture from Silver Krome nursery 15 or so years ago, and has not been offered since then. I have been told by a curator of the aroid collection of the Fairchild Gardens in Miami that it only really exists in cultivation now in older botanical gardens in the US and Europe and in some private collections, like mine. There is a specimen at MOBOT, one in SO Cal, a few around Europe, and I donated one to the Fairchild Gardens 2 years ago. I have been told that by breeding my plants and offering them, I am almost single handedly placing this plant back into cultivation. If you are interested in a specimen of this plant, LMK. Whether I can send to you depends on where you live.

I'm interested! I might not be able to grow them long term (indoor grower problems 🤷‍♀️) but we have an amazing "jungle" in our zoo where my daughter works and maybe I can get them started and then donate them.

I was thinking about this post the other day.

It's amazing that just one person can save and reintroduce a plant back into a collection. I also thank you for sharing this plant with the public by donating it to a public garden for all to enjoy.

I suppose ariod plant will start to become more and more endangered in nature as deforresting in rainforest continues.

My hat's off to you. Thank you from one plant person to another Hurray!

I have no idea if what he said is true. But, it is true that I have not seen these for sale for many years, anywhere.

I am sorry I haven;t sent photos to the people who asked yet...we had the well pump go out yesterday and its been a bad day and a half. Over now and fixed, so things back to normal!
