All of the sudden the new leaves on my hibiscus are curling. The previous new growth was fine. Below are 2 pictures of the curled leaves. The last picture is of the healthy leaves. It was very hot the last few days. Could that be the problem. It is getting regular water and there is no sign of pests.

We water every other day for 10 minutes at night.

It is a little sandy but gets quite hard when dry. We have a lot of hardpan here and it is alkaline soil.

10 min at night?

I would recommend watering in the morning. Before 10 AM should be good.

Do you have a drip system or do you use the hose?

I water mine, I have a tropical hibiscus and hardy hibiscus, with 2 - 4 liters of water, every 3 - 5 days.

The drip system you see in my pic, hasn't been used in years.

How old is your hibiscus? Did you prune it to the ground? (Which CAN be OK with hibiscus in certain cases)

Also, are your leaves crumbly?

Watering at night can lead to a host a fungi and molds. As during the night, the water doesn't evaporate. It sits there. Spores germinate and grow, molds form. It might be from this or not. Just a reason why you should water in the morning vs night.

Maybe someone else has seen this, and can chime in.
