We had some low-growing sumac that spread beyond the bed. Would like something to replace it. Colorful. Low maintenance. Somewhat squat. Long blooming during summer and autumn. Trimmable to keep its growth within about 2' high and 2' wide or so. S-side full sun. Sandy soil.

Probably not spirea or potentilla, which we have nearby.

So many varieties would do what the sumac did, which was shade and crowd out the perennials in this bed.

Too much to ask for?

At first I thought of maybe euonymus but I don't think that blooms much. There are some really lovely variegated ones though.
