Thread OP

I just checked my zucchini plant this morning and found a crazy weird growth at the base of the plant. At first I thought it was a mushroom growth (which I've had before near/around overwatered roses) but it doesn't quite look like that. I've tried looking up similar diseases with zucchini but can't find anything that matches what I saw.
The problem zucchini is in a planter made from a repurposed tire (washed thoroughly before planting) and the soil is a mix of store-bought compost and bagged garden soil. I live in Texas, zone 8, if it matters. I have left the growth alone for now as it is isolated from any other plants.
To cut to the chase: has anyone else seen/had something like this before? Is there anything I can do to remedy this or should I dispose of the plant before it gets worse?
Thanks in advance for your helpful responses!
