Late last summer/early fall we purchased 2 Swamp Milkweed plants. We read all the planting directions and found a nice sunny spot for them. Now they are just twigs. What can we do/what did we do wrong?

Welcome to the site!

I would not give up on them, mine are very slow to start every year.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Milkweeds are usually the last thing to show up in my garden.
