Does anyone have an idea of what may be wrong with this tree in our back yard? Bark is peeling off at the base, and there are dead branches in various places throughout the tree (see red circle where a large section is dead). Wondering if I should hire someone to trim up the dead branches, or whether it has a disease and has to come down. Hoping not... I really like this tree.

Welcome!

Your tree is in bad shape. Do you know what kind of tree it is? It could be bacterial or it could be borers. I'm not sure anything can be done to save it.
