I cut the top off this cactus about a week ago and no new growth has appeared to occur yet. Is there anyway to encourage new pups/growth to form and how long should I have to wait?

1. It hasnt even calloused.
Some times it takes months, years.
Sometimes it doesnt at all.
2. Its a mammillaria a slow one to begin with. Its not gonna magically grow a new head in a week....

That is so true...slow growing is like their growing mantra. Your container seems too deep/too big for the size of your cactus. I would also make that media much more grittier than that while you are waiting, you got lots of time to improve it now..

You have to arm yourself with patience, tons of it. Smiling

It is not a mammillaria. It has ribs.
I think it is a Cleistocactus or some other hairy columnar type.

As to the sprouting of offsets or arms, Stefan nailed it, do not hold your breath...

I agree with tarev as well, unless that plant had a massive root ball that pot is quite large for the plant.

It is what it is!
