I bought a clematis. And I need to buy a trellis. I feel a metal trellis may get hot and damage the plant? Or does it not matter?

Welcome! My clematis is on a metal trellis. Seems to do just fine.

Emily,
I really do not think that it matters to the Clematis. It may matter to you so you should use what looks the best for you.

@gardenfish and @BigBill
Thank you for your responses. I'm looking for a long horizontal trellis to serve as a backdrop to my long rectangular raised bed. I think I'll have more luck finding a wire trellis with that in mind.

You are most welcome. I like the idea of a horizontal trellis.,
