Hello, I am hoping someone can help identify what is on these Western Hemlock trees. I have seen a couple hemlocks in my area showing these woody bumps all over the bark. They come off easily and feel hard and woody to the touch.

Black knot is a widespread fungal disease. Insects and plant diseases use the galls as an entry to the tree. The disease cycle starts when spores are released from established knots where the fungus overwinters.
NOT A EXPERT! Just a grow worm! I never met a plant I didn’t love.✌
