I want to plant some Hostas and Lantanas together. I'm in Columbia, SC (Zone 8A). Can you tell me if the play well together?

The only possible issue I can see is that I believe Lantana's do best in a full sun situation. Not all Hosta's will look their best in a full sun spot. Maybe the Lantana's could provide the shade for the hostas.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Lantana love full sun in order to grow and bloom properly.
Hostas like full shade to a little dappled sunlight. Hostas will burn if given too much sun so you probably do not want to grow them together. In SC, too much sun will expose the Hostas to too much heat. They won't like that either.

I would not try to mix these two guys either. I have a lantana that likes to throw very large growth in search of the sun when sunlight conditions through the year become unfavorable and it gets too much shade.

Plant Marigolds instead of Hostas with your Lantanas, for the right mix.
NOT A EXPERT! Just a grow worm! I never met a plant I didn’t love.✌
