The California Capitol has added to its cactus garden a few new modest beds that includes this Agave I'd overlooked thinking it was another americana. I saw it again today and realized it was quite different. Perhaps 'cornelius' ? Wild guess but it is growing small and has some wavy leaf margins. Anyone know it? I tip my hat to you.

Nice! I think you are right that it looks like Agave 'Cornelius', which at least to my understanding is supposed to be a sport of Agave americana.

Gorgeous plant! I'm going to have to pay more attention to the gardens around the capitol building.

Just an update.... ran into the person who purchased/planted/cares for the Capitol's cactus garden but he could not remember the name. I suggested 'Cornelius' but he couldn't confirm. Here's new photos. It's really doing quite nicely.

Doing nicely appears to be an understatement nodding . Looking at the first photo and the great concoction of plants near and in the background of the subject makes me wonder if you never have things that batter and mar and scar plants during their growing lifetime. Hail and wind blowing debris would keep this area from ever having a display like that. Not to mention all the insects and varmints. Great photos to look at.

A VERY happy 'Cornelius'!! We had a nice big one with lots of pups but Agave weevils got it. We'll have to try again and preventatively use systemic for protection.

There's just something that gets me exited about a plant with teeth. Beautiful plant!

@needsrain This garden gets battered by hail and occasionally very badly. There's also a troop of ground squirrels that live in just this cactus garden. There very out of place. Worst of all for the cactus are people! Theft of all things. Just hack of a piece or dig it up lock stock and Golden barrel!

@HamiltonSquare
I hate to hear that. None of that is showing in your photos. It's especially sad about people being the worst.
