Hello All

I just got this seemingly healthy philodendron hope and it was all bushy and strong.. I placed it in a shadowy spot and then noticed its leaves started to drop and then saw the leaves were soggy. I watered it, removed bad leaves and waited. Now it continued to do it and im worried im going to lose them all.

I see new growth but also that sogginess and Im not sure what to do.

regards

D.

You may be over watering and giving it too much sun. The plant would fair better indoors in a well lit area with indirect bright light. I think if you keep it outside it will die.

When all this started it was inside in a "dark room". I changed it outside just recently to get some sun see if that helped.

The plant store I got it from was an AC controlled room, with artificial light.

Not sure if it is just getting used to our place or something :(

I'm not sure but my first thought regarding your Tree Philodendron (Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum 'Hope') is that it may be a watering issue. Leaves will get soggy and turn black when the roots are staying too wet. Depending on the type of potting medium being used, you may need to allow the plant to dry out longer between watering.

Glad you found the thread Lin despite by tagging error! Sticking tongue out

Personally I think it's too drastic of a change to go from AC and artificial light, to a darkened room and then to outside. It needs time to gradually adjust.
Not sure why @oneeyeluke would say this would die if left outside. It prefers bright light, warmth and humidity and Panama City would certainly qualify. I have two potted ones (not the 'Hope' variety) outside that get morning sun and they do fabulous, the one inside facing morning sun window is not doing that great, it will also be moved outside as well.
It may have gotten hit by direct sun or if you watered the leaves, the sun may have burned them.
How do you decide when to water? Do you check the moisture in the pot? As Lin mentioned, too much water can affect the leaves too.
