Personally I think it's too drastic of a change to go from AC and artificial light, to a darkened room and then to outside. It needs time to gradually adjust.

would say this would die if left outside. It prefers bright light, warmth and humidity and Panama City would certainly qualify. I have two potted ones (not the 'Hope' variety) outside that get morning sun and they do fabulous, the one inside facing morning sun window is not doing that great, it will also be moved outside as well.
It may have gotten hit by direct sun or if you watered the leaves, the sun may have burned them.
How do you decide when to water? Do you check the moisture in the pot? As Lin mentioned, too much water can affect the leaves too.
