My garden's helper cut into the middle of my beautiful Fatsia. Should I cut it lower as the leaves are turning black and dying. I now protect it from the sun. It is a massacre!

You can cut it where you want now because it doesn't matter much. If you open up the center with pruning you may can save it. Cut off any black leaves that block the light from getting down to the lower branches. Don't over water it but don't let it dry out completely either. The growing shoots are what's important and as long as you have good growing shoots or growing tips you will be ok.
NOT A EXPERT! Just a grow worm! I never met a plant I didn’t love.✌
