Hello,

I have a vegetable garden, all in containers. All the containers have drainage holes which i created with a drill. I have used potting mix in all the containers. My plants seem to be flourishing but I've been reading and I am worried the water is draining too fast. I live somewhere between zone 7a and 7b. I started with seedlings (tomato, peppers, cucumbers) and they are all growing well. When i fertilized and watered today i noticed i saw water immediately come out of the drainage holes, not all of them but enough to slightly puddle (i have all pots raise on a beam to allow for drainage). The soil doesn't seem hard or compacted, as I am able to easily fork through. I am new to gardening and don't know if I am overthinking it.

Your plants look very good so I imagine that the drainage is fine.

Welcome!

Your plants look great! Next time you water, stick your finger down into the soil of the fast draining pots to check for moisture. If the soil is dry a couple inches down, you have a problem. If its wet, all is good. I suspect you will find the soil is wet after you water, otherwise, you plants wouldn't look as good as they do.

Thank You! Big Grin

Thank you both! I'm super excited that this is going so well. There's so much information online its almost overwhelming. I just want to make sure I am caring for each plant correctly. And Daisy you are right! I went to the deck and checked and the soil is definitely wet. I'll definitely provide updates. I am glad to be part of a gardening community.
