We have a sour cherry tree that has produced prolifically for several years. This spring buds appeared and then the whole tree seemed to dry up and die. We have cut it down to about 2 feet above the ground. Will it come back from the roots?

Did cracks appear in the trunk before it died?

It will regrow from the trunk but will look more like a bush than a tree.

If it had ground suckers before and new tree will grow.
If it did not have suckers it is simply dead.
