I a purchased this plant 2 years ago from a private seller as "piper betel " whom I cant reach now, It does have a mild fragrance of betel leaf, but not as strong as I expected. It dies of every winter and grows multiple pups from the root during spring. it doesn't get as dark as betel leaf and the flower is way different from the what I have seen for betel leaf on web and its not a vine... now I am wondering if it really is a betel plant or not... I tried to use multiple plant identification apps and each time its a different result.. some of them are "pepper seed" "mexican pepper leaf" "lizard's tail" .
I am hoping someone here can ID the plant. IF Piper Betel, then what variety would be really appreciated.
I am in southern California. I kept this plant mostly in partial shade and it grows vigorously on moist pot or in ground.
