Received this in a trade; can someone tell me her name? I like her...all shiny and green and scalloped edged. ![]() While the earth remains, Seed time and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease. Gen. 8:22 |

Just judging from the leaves, it looks like Alocasia portora. Are the stems darker than the leaves? I garden for the pollinators. |

Not really; stem has blotchy brown with green. While the earth remains, Seed time and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease. Gen. 8:22 |

It could be something else then. If you don't get a definitive answer here, perhaps try the Aroids Forum. http://garden.org/forums/view/... I garden for the pollinators. |
Betsy, I agree with Tee that A. x portora is a good candidate. I have a small one purchased at Logee's this summer and small (young) leaves looks much like yours. Petioles are as you describe "blotchy brown with green". Will photo tonight for you to compare. Evan |

Alocasia 'Boa' has blotched stems, I can't find any Portora which has that. http://www.agristarts.com/htm/... http://www.google.co.uk/search... http://www.agristarts.com/htm/... http://www.aroid.org/genera/sp... |

Thanks, Janet. I believe LariAnn Garner of Aroidia Research bred the A. portora hybrid. It would be great to hear from them too. Betsy's plant looks very young. If you are not familiar with LariAnn, Betsy, she is the moderator of the Aroids Forum here on ATP. ![]() http://garden.org/forums/view/... I garden for the pollinators. |

Janet, I think you are right, it looks like the "boa"; I googled pics of it and looked at the stem. Thanks everyone. While the earth remains, Seed time and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease. Gen. 8:22 |

Betsy, Your plant is most likely Alocasia x portora. A. boa is quite different in several ways, even when young. Since I did the A. x portora, I am very familiar with how they look when young or old. They do have brownish petioles whose coloration is more pronounced when young. Hope this helps, LariAnn Aroidia Research Be the Captain of What's Gonna Happen! |
Thanks for clearing this up LariAnn! ![]() Here are photos I just took. ![]() ![]() Evan |

Thanks, LariAnn and Evan. I was just wondering why we don't have an Aroids microbadge. But that discussion is for a different forum. ![]() I garden for the pollinators. |

Here's an idea of what kind of monster you can get: LariAnn Be the Captain of What's Gonna Happen! |
Hi LariAnn, I've updated the height in the database entry from 6 to 8 feet to 8 to 12 feet. ![]() That is a monster. Can't wait for A. 'Thunder Waves'. http://aroidiaresearch.org/por... Evan |
