In my mom's woods in southern Indiana, there are several large trees that we do not know the identity and this is one of them. I couldn't get very close and even the lowest limbs were very high. I am afraid my zoom and lack of steadiness blurred some of the pictures.

Also would like to know if that is Virginia creeper growing up the trunk of this tree. Whatever it is, it is all over this woods. Makes me itch just looking at it.

Cherry???

In photos 1 and 2 ... the bark on the small branches looks like cherry/prunus.

In photo #2 ... the leaf at top center gives a hint of serration. The leaf in near center of photo looks like it has the requisite glands at the base of the leaf.

That looks like Prunus serotina, and yes - that is Parthenocissus quinquefolia climbing on it.

Thanks! Mom will be very excited to learn the identity of this one. It is so tall, I had trouble getting good pictures of the leaves. Very glad to get the confirmation on the Virginia creeper too!
