I will be having breakfast with them this coming Sunday at our local club presidents house. Will also be writing an article on their presentation to our club later that day. I know nothing about them or their hybridizing programs. I've tried doing a websearch and haven't really come up with much. I am familiar with their names but not their work. Anyone have any helpful info for me? Thanks ![]() |

I wonder if there is some info on the AHS site - I think there have probably been articles written on them in the past |

I wish I was going to lunch with them! They are two of my favorite daylily people. David is one of the daylily legends. He is well known for breeding reds and doubles. Mort has been working with patterns for years! Both of them are very generous with their time, and donations, to clubs, daylily events etc. David is a native Floridian, but moved near Lexington KY a few years back, to a historic big brick home on a hilltop. David's father was a flower breeder, so he was brought up with hybridizing. You will have a great time! |

If you don't know about their program, go to their website: http://www.daylilyworld.com/ You will be astounded by their work. Their generosity is legendary. Your nose will burn as you spray hot coffee through it from laughing at David! Mort and David are two of the nicest people you will ever meet, and are down-to-earth. You will enjoy them. 43 years in hybridizing! I HOPE I can have a few seedlings in the next 43 years that are remotely close to their early work! Of course, 43 years from now, I won't even be able to see them! David Bishop, not Kirchoff "Anything worth doing is worth overdoing"~~~David Bishop http://daylilyfans.com/bishop/ |

I have to agree with Juli and Doris, I had the pleasure at the National convention to have some after hours socializing with them at Dan Hansens and between them and Curt Hanson, it was just one of the most fun nights Ive had. Besides that, they do great work. Im a bit of a Truffle fan. Earlier that day, we had been out in the field and David was walking down Leslies row of seedlings and giving her advice. Fun to hear what he was seeing. Wish I could help with more. Wish I lived in their house ![]() |

Yes, I love their house!!! I've visited them a few times since they have come to KY. Their driveway is pretty scary though.... ![]() |

I heard that they moved to Kentucky because they were fed up with the rust on their daylilies while hybridizing in Florida. The subject of rust is very interesting. If the story I heard is true, I'm sure they will have alot of insight into this nasty disease plaguing the daylily world. I would especially like to hear their experience with it in Kentucky and which varieties they grow that seem most resistant to it.....Maryl |

Thanks for the info! I guess I didn't dig into their website enough to find out a few tidbits. I couldn't find David Kirchoff's registrations on AHS but finally figured that out too! I'm not much of a search engine when it comes to finding information on the web. ![]() I'll have to do some more reading before Sunday. Thanks again! |

Just remember it is two h's and two f's Kirchhoff. |

Which is why I couldn't originally find anything on AHS! Sorry about the spelling |

Me, too. I had the same problem in the AHS database and searching my favorite ebay seller's listings by Kirchhoff. ![]() It’s okay to not know all the answers. |

I have been to the KY Daylily World a few times. David and Mort are very nice! I have some nice landscape shots of their farm, if I can locate the file. Yes, their drive is secluded. Bee Kind, make the world a better place. |

What can I tell you? The David is a hoot! Mort is quiet and very interesting (he designs jewelry too) |

On one visit I asked a friend to take a photo of me between Mort and David in the garden. He made a funny comment about the paparazzi after him LOL Bee Kind, make the world a better place. |
