This unusual plant cropped up out of nowhere. It is very tall and skinny. Does anyone know what it is? Thank you.

It's about 4 foot tall. Only two lone stalks. Looked a bit like asparagus. But the cluster and sturdy main stem didn't seem like Smilex to me. But I could be entirely mistaken.
