I moved into a new build in 2018 and noticed over a hundred of these small black insects, nestling into the wood beams causing splinters. They almost look dead whilst they're burrowed, but alive ones are managing to fit through a tiny gap in the loft hatch.

Be great to hear if anyone knows, I can't seem to find them online!

I wonder... I think I've seen these before, or something pretty darn similar, but the name slips me.
