Hi, brown spots have started showing near the roots of my Areca palm. Does anyone know what they might be?

I water it once a week (0.5l, 17oz), it's been in the same pot and soil for 5 years, since I bought it from Ikea. I haven't done anything to the soil and I haven't moved it around, it's right next to a window and it's recently gotten warmer here in Switzerland.

Thank you

Areca palms spotted appearance on the stems are the norm with an older palm! You have nothing to worry about, and you have done a good job taking care of it. Super job with watering, thanks for sharing.

I also bought Areca from Ikea and it does not look as good and is 'balding'. Do you use any fertilizers?

@BrownThumbArnie - Welcome! Fertilizer is not medicine and should only be used with healthy plants that are growing vigorously. Please post a photo of your Areca that also shows its pot so we can better diagnose it and help you correct the problem.

No fertilizers, just unfiltered water + kept it indoors and close to a window:
