Some animal is clean-cutting off the stems of my Gardenia and Azalea plants from the base. It doesn't look like it is eating them as I see the cut off stems at the base of the plant. It is destroying my entire flower garden and would appreciate if someone can tell me which animal it could be. I have attached the pictures of one of the Gardenias, and the cut off stems.

Thanks in advance.

Put a pie tin out next to the plants with unpopped popcorn in it and see if it stops. Squirrels like to sharpen their teeth on wood stems, and will just cut them off and leave them, but they love popcorn more than wood stems. Not microwave popcorn but the old fashioned kind.
NOT A EXPERT! Just a grow worm! I never met a plant I didn’t love.✌

You may need to monitor during the day and at night. Look for bunnies, squirrels and rodents like shrews, voles and moles... while some rodents are primarily insectivores, they can and do eat some vegetation and will gnaw on roots and bark to keep their very sharp teeth filed back. You just have to catch them in the act to know exactly what is behind this. If you have security cameras, you may want to temporarily tweak one of them to this area so you can monitor from inside the home.

Yeah, they did like two weeks ago.
But we both know that if you ever want to bet on something, you can probably find somebody to take that bet.
