I have had enough. I want no part of being scolded on the other forums for hurting people's feelings! It has gotten to the point where you can't say anything bad to anybody. Well quite frankly, that is not anything that I can be a part of.
The Orchid Forums have become tedious and boring and I think that I need to leave.
It has been nice knowing you all! Take care! The list of great people here is just too long for me to mention every one of you.
Stay safe
Be healthy and take care

Bill, I don't know what has happened. I have valued your posts and all of the great info you've shared. You will be sorely missed here. It's so important to have some pro's on each forum to get out true information. I see some spouting off false information on other forums.

I would rather not expound on my reasons. I am just tired of being chastised and threatened with banishment.

Too many foul apples.
I just feel that this has become more about butterflies and unicorns and everybody gets a trophy.

As much as I will miss the Orchid Forums, and my friends there in, I can no longer deal with other stuff. I really want to vent, but I won't do that.

My good friend Ken has my e-mail address so you can still reach me regarding orchid questions. Ursula, Elaine and Lindsey, I will miss you very much.
I am taking over the Newsletter up here for the Ann Arbor Orchid Society so that will demand my attention.
And I am going to be a Grandpa!!!! Hip hip hooray!!!
Take care all.

Bill, hopefully you are not totally disassociated yet from us and might still read this -

I have come across some of the conversations which might have triggered your decision. Perhaps not coming to help by answering questions as you are inclined to do, for a while, might not be a bad idea? As the song goes, Let it go, let it go!! Chat with us instead and it would be lovely to see others we haven't seen in a while, drop in too! 💕

I really don't care anymore.
I really did not like being told by Australis that I was being watched. I thought, you know I am 71, and I am being watched! Really?

It is my opinion that this has slipped so much in the last 18 months, it is now all about not hurting some ones feelings. This is not about gardening as much as it is about feelings. That just spoke volumes to me.
I have my first grandchild coming, I am getting a web site up to sell my bird images, I am involved in judging, my yard and my kids and I am not really into worrying about every single word I say because of feelings. Nah, I'm done.

Bill, I'm really sorry you took it that way. I actually hadn't meant that I was watching or monitoring your behaviour at all, just that I had been following that thread! (I usually do with threads concerning accounts because I'm a plant admin, plus I'd replied to it so I was notified of responses.)

I wish you all the best and enjoy being a grandfather.

Bill, hope this is not too late, but I'd just like to add the weight of my regret, if you do leave us.

We all appreciate you here. Please, as others have suggested, just take a break and come back when you are ready.

There should be no personal attacks, and no feelings involved in a gardening discussion. I'm on a couple of other forums on Florida gardening on Facebook, and there certainly are miserable people and 'trolls' on every forum. The Admins are in charge of keeping the peace, and reminding people when they get personal to keep the conversations civil and constructive. They do on occasion dismiss people who are habitual offenders, but I'm sure that's not you.

Some people hate to be told they're wrong, no matter who tells them. I think I am a very even-tempered person but there have been threads I've had to abandon because a person resorted to personal attacks when I and others gave their opinions. On Facebook, you just "turn off notifications" and on here you can just "unwatch" a thread.

Please "unwatch" those threads where you're having troubles, and stay with us? It's not easy but once you do it a few times you realize what a relief it can be.

The best I can do for now is to say I will keep my eye on the Orchid Forums.
Questions regarding orchids that all my friends pose will be looked at. Everyone from Carol to Glenn, to Cameron to Ken to Jim to Elaine and Lindsey will get an opinion slash answer from me. I apologize if I forgot some one. Oops I forgot Gina. Damn! Sorry.
But I am not answering questions from new members on orchids. They will have to build up a little Street Cred! Now there is something I just thought I would never say in a gardening forum! Rolling on the floor laughing
I really am serious. I have had enough but for the time being I'll check in at least once a day to see if one of my friends need my help. That much I can do.

Well, shoot. I used to be a regular on a different thread, and I took a break for awhile to do some genealogy. But when a question came up, my first thought was "BigBill will know the name". I'll take an answer from any of you all, because you know way more than I do on orchids. Bill, I hope you find your peace.
So, I've had this NoID for a couple years. Long enough to forget what it looked like. It just sat in my window, watching it's big sisters bloom away. I know it's a dwarf Phal, but look at the pic. Four petals and no "face". Anyone want to take a shot at a name? Appreciate anything you can tell me. ☺️ Here's a photo...

There is chance of getting a name on a deformed flower. How can we compare it to a normal flower. It is missing one of its segments. That segment might be two fused something's either petals or sepals. And there is no lip which completed the flower.

Most orchids get a name by the hybridizer. If this came out cross and looks like this every single time, they would not name it.
The best chance you have is to flower it as a complete flower and hopes somebody might recognize it.
